IMA Plugged-In 2021

IMA Plugged-In is a free monthly opportunity for museum professionals and volunteers to connect around topics of interest to the museum field. 

IMA Plugged-In is provided by the Iowa Museum Association the third Monday of the month at noon. This one-hour opportunity to lunch, learn, and engage varies from facilitated conversations to presentations.

Collecting During Crisis

Description:

The Summer 2020 protests following the George Floyd murder had a tremendous impact on the Black community of Cedar Rapids.  Felicite Wolfe, Curator and Collections Manager at the African American Museum of Iowa, will discuss the unique viewpoint and challenges as an institution in preserving Black history during this time.

The Old Capitol Museum stood at the center of June 2020 racial injustice protests, serving as a canvas for the protesters’ messages.  Liz Crooks, Director of the University of Iowa Pentacrest Museums, will discuss the challenges and impacts of nearly two weeks of protests in Iowa City. 

Nick Erickson, Registrar for the Grout Museum District in Waterloo, will share the museum’s experience of active collecting during the George Floyd Protests of 2020.  He will discuss the challenges, pitfalls, and considerations involved in attempting to begin to serve an underserved community.

Strategic Survival & Synergy to Success

Description:

Planning how your organization can emerge from uncertain times as a stronger and energized team. James Hoelscher, CEcD, Senior Program Manager at UNI’s Institute for Decision Making.

James coordinates UNI’s Economic Development Administration University Center and is the Director of the Heartland Economic Development Course.  James is a Certified Economic Developer, is a member of the International Economic Development Council, and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy.  He currently serves as the President of the Professional Developers of Iowa and on the executive committees of the Iowa Rural Development Council and Iowa Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative.
